L2 Cache:-  Memory cache that is between the CPU and the main memory.

Language:- A special set of symbols, characters, and numbers that you use to
communicate with your computer.

Laptop:-   A small, lightweight, and portable battery-powered computer that can fit
onto your lap.  They have a thin, flat, liquid crystal display screen.

Laser Disk:-  A small disk on which digital data is stored as minute pits and bumps,
and which is read by a laser beam.

Laser Printer:-  A printer that uses the principle of dry process similar to office
copiers.  A modulated laser beam is used as the light source to heat up the drum.

LCD (Liquid Crystal Display):-  A display technology that relies on polarizing filters
and liquid-crystal cells to produce an on-screen image.  This is the same kind of
display used to show numerals in such devices as digital watches and calculators.

Leased Line:-  A private, non-switched, dedicated communications line.

LED (Light-Emitting Diode):-  Used for display in some electronic devices.

Light Pen:-  A photosensitive input device that, when placed against a video screen
and moved about, responds to the light images present.

Line Conditioner:-  An electrical device (often part of an UPS) that ensures a constant
level of electricity, by cleaning up any fluctuations in voltage.

Line Noise:-  Static over a phone line which can cause a poor on-line connection.

Linker:-  A program which can combine several machine language files into an
executable program.

Local Area Network (LAN):-  The linkage of computers within a limited area through
the use of cables.  Computers on a LAN can exchange information, share
peripherals (such as printers or tape backups), and share common software
resources.

Log Off:-  Procedure to end a session with a computer or on-line service.

Log On:-  Procedure to begin a session with a computer or on-line service.

Logical Drives:-  Drive patricians that have been created from a physical disk drive.  
For example, one physical drive can be divided into two logical drives, C  - and D -.

Lost Cluster:-  A a cluster on disk that is not registered as free, but does not have
any  known data in it.

LPT1:-  The name used to refer to the first parallel port on a computer. The second
parallel port, if there is one, is LPT2. The printer is usually connected to LPT1.

Luminance:-  The measure of the brightness of a color.

Lurk:-  To monitor an on-line discussion without participating.
